Shakespeare’s great, unruly history play, King John is a thrilling exploration of power, legitimacy and the dangerous business of deciding who has the right to rule. It is Shakespeare at his most politically astute, but also unexpectedly funny, savage and alive to the absurdity of human behaviour. Beneath the battles and power struggles lies a play fascinated by what makes a nation, what makes a king, and what we are prepared to do in the name of either.

We will read KING JOHN in person (in a delightful cosy house in Blackheath). We will then head to the magical candle lit SAM WANAMAKER PLAYHOUSE to see Olivier nominated JAZ WOODCOCK-STEWART’s production.
